Last night right before Carly and I were going to sleep, Carly sat up and apparently surprised Jack because he barked in her face viciously and I was sitting right there! It terrified Carly and I had to make sure that she hadn't been bitten. It was so scary. Tears were just streaming down her face. At that moment, I thought to myself, we must be insane for having this little dog around our curious and soon to be very mobile baby. Jack is only 8 lbs and it would be very easy for Carly to hurt him, so I understand why he gets scared, but what if he bit her? He has done this to my nephew, Indea and C. I gave him the benefit of the doubt because he didn't know them, but he knows Carly very well. I would never forgive myself if Carly got hurt by him. When I was four our dachshund bit me in the mouth and there was so much blood. It was awful. I think we need to find someone who doesn't have kids and wants to spoil Jack like he's the baby. Its sad, because we love him, but what do we do? Do we chance this?

Unfortunately I'm not the dog loving lesbian I was years ago. 5 kids ago to be honest.
It's hard juggling the two. I also would not risk scarring that beautiful face.
Good luck
Do you risk it??? Good gosh woman, NO!! She startled him that's all and he should be WELL used to that by now!!!
You may not be so lucky the second time around... TRUST ME on this!!
(totally stumbled across your blog.)and I have a four pound lil dog and I swear she thinks she's human! she like getting all dressed up and sleeping in my bed with my husband and I she like wearing outfits and getting complimented and even has her own stroller (that costs more than a child's stroller!) She doesnt like kids she gets defensive like Jack and although she's never bitten, I would die at the thought of her doing something like that to my child!! I wouldn't risk it! if you have a near by family member or friend willing to take him in (you can visit him as often as you want!)that would be safer all around!
This is kind of a delicate balancing act between the love for your child, and the love for your pet, which may or may not have come first.
Despite the warnings here, we taught our daughter to stay away from the pets by using the same strategy as we did with hot things, or things she shouldn't touch, especially when they were sleeping. It seemed to work, and we had no snapping incidents with the dogs.
However, I would say that ultimately it is your decision, hard as it will be to make.
I've been thinking about you a lot since I read this...
If anything don't let the dog sleep on your bed anymore, that puts them in the position to think they are equal to you and they shouldn't be. Get him a nice snuggely or even heated for that matter bed for him and put it on the floor or if that doesn't work put it in the hallway and shut your door at night...
That would be the first thing I would try because chances are that during the day he will just get up and move to a different spot or room to stay away from her.(he has time to get used to it because of rolling/crawling and such before the walking)
This is Jack's mom and I have been thinking about this too.. with a heavy heart as to what could be the solution. I am going to work with Jack and Carly to train both of them along with some seperation and we will use a comfortable muzzle (for Jack) :) when I know they will interacting mostly in the evenings. I hope this works because I love both of them and I believe their is a win/win solution in most circumstances.
Tina, if you ever have any questions that I may be able to possibly answer or give alternate options please don't hesitate to ask.(It's Kinda what I do:)
